A Short Shop Policy That Answers Questions Early

KinkMarket · · 3 min read

Many sellers either have no policy at all or have one so long that nobody reaches the end of it. Neither helps. A buyer who cannot quickly find out how long an order takes or what happens with a custom request will either ask you, which costs your time, or quietly go elsewhere.

A useful policy is short. Aim for a handful of plain sentences under a few simple headings: how and when you send orders, how custom requests work, how you keep things discreet and what happens if a parcel goes missing or arrives damaged.

Write it the way you would explain it to a buyer in a message. Say how many days you usually take to send, and be honest rather than optimistic. If custom work needs a deposit or cannot be changed once started, say so plainly before anyone has paid.

Be clear about what you cannot do. If you do not ship to certain places, or do not accept returns on worn items for obvious reasons, a calm line explaining that saves an awkward conversation later. Buyers generally respect a clear limit far more than a vague promise.

Keep the policy in one place and point to it from your listings, so a buyer can find it in a single click. When you change how you work, update it the same day, because an out of date policy is worse than none.

Finally, stick to it. A policy only builds trust if buyers find that what you wrote is what actually happens, order after order.
