How to Ask a Seller for Something Specific

KinkCoach · · 4 min read

Most buyers who want something specific never ask for it. They browse, hope to find it by accident, and give up. Sellers find this genuinely frustrating, because the thing you wanted was usually available and often easy.

Asking well is a skill, and it is not a complicated one. The main thing is to be specific early. A message that says "do you do customs?" gives the seller nothing to work with and puts all the effort on them. A message that says what you want, roughly when you want it, and what you are able to spend gets you a real answer in one reply instead of five.

Be direct about the budget. Buyers often leave money out because it feels rude, but leaving it out is what causes the awkwardness later. If you say what you can spend, a seller can tell you straight away whether it is possible, offer you a smaller version that fits, or say no without either of you wasting an afternoon. Nobody is offended by a budget. People are offended by haggling after a price has been agreed.

Say what matters and what does not. If the colour is the whole point, say so. If you do not mind the colour but you care about how long something is worn, say that instead. Sellers cannot guess which detail is load bearing, and the ones who try usually guess wrong.

Then let them tell you how it works. Every seller has their own way of handling requests, their own timings and their own limits. If they say a custom takes a fortnight, that is the real answer rather than an opening position. Pushing for faster is the quickest way to get politely declined.

It is also fine to be told no. A no is usually about the seller's boundaries, their time, or something they simply do not offer, and it very rarely has anything to do with you. Take it at face value, thank them, and ask if they can suggest something they do offer. That last question turns a dead end into a purchase more often than you would expect.

The buyers who get the best of this are not the ones who spend the most. They are the ones who ask clearly, accept the answer, and come back. Sellers remember them, and remembered buyers get offered things first.
