Listing Photos That Show the Real Thing

KinkMarket · · 3 min read

A photo on a listing has two jobs. It has to make someone stop scrolling, and it has to show them honestly what will arrive. Most sellers put their effort into the first job, and most disappointed buyers were let down by the second.

Think about what a buyer would do if they could hold the item. They would check the colour in daylight, look at the fabric or finish up close, turn it over, and get a sense of its size. Your photos should do each of those things for them. One clear shot in natural light, one close up of the texture or detail, one showing the back or the inside, and one with something familiar nearby for scale will answer most questions before they are asked.

Be careful with filters and heavy editing. A warmer tone or a softer finish can make a picture more attractive, but if it changes the colour a buyer expects, the parcel will feel like a different item when it arrives. Light that is bright and even does more for a listing than any effect, and it is far easier to stand behind if someone asks why the shade looks different.

Show the wear if there is any. A small mark, a loose thread or signs of use are far better photographed and mentioned than discovered. A buyer who has seen the flaw and bought anyway is a happy buyer. A buyer who finds it on opening the parcel is a complaint, and often a review.

Finally, keep the background plain and the photos consistent across your shop. When every listing is lit and framed in a similar way, buyers can compare items easily and trust that what they see is what they will get.
