Naming a Listing So It Can Actually Be Found

KinkMarket · · 3 min read

A listing lives or dies a little before anyone sees the photo, because the title is what search and the category filters actually read. A clever or vague title might sound good to you, but if it does not contain the word a buyer would type, the listing is invisible to exactly the person looking for it.

The simplest fix is to write the title the way a buyer would search rather than the way you would describe the item to a friend. A soft, atmospheric phrase reads nicely but buries the actual product word. Putting the plain, searchable term first still leaves room for the atmosphere in the description underneath.

It helps to think of the title in two layers: the plain, searchable noun first, then the detail that makes your listing different from the next seller own. Buyers filter and scan quickly, and a title that makes them work out what the item actually is loses them before the photo has a chance to do its job.

Category and tags matter here too, and they are worth revisiting rather than set once and forgotten. A listing filed under the wrong category, or missing a tag a buyer would reasonably filter by, is functionally hidden even with a perfect title, and it is one of the quickest things to check when a listing that should be selling is not.

None of this replaces good photos or an honest description. It simply decides whether either of those ever gets seen. A plain, searchable title is not the less creative choice, it is the one that lets the rest of the listing do its work.
