Proof and Authenticity: Showing the Item Is Real

Every worn item buyer has the same underlying worry: did you actually wear it. They rarely say it outright, but it sits behind the questions they ask. Sellers who answer it before it is asked sell more, and they keep buyers.

What proof actually means

Proof is evidence the item was worn by you, for as long as you said, doing what you said. It is a photograph of you wearing the item, dated or contextual. It is a short video from the wear. It is a note in your handwriting that goes in the parcel. What it is not is a stock photograph or a shot of the folded item on a bed, which proves only that you own it.

The proof photograph

Worn, on you, in the item, with something in frame that ties it to the time you claim. Some sellers hold a card with the date. Some use context, the gym, the office coat, the weather outside. Keep your face out of it if you want, because showing your work without showing everything is entirely possible and most proof shots need nothing above the shoulders.

Charging for proof

Basic proof should be included. One worn shot with the listing, free, because it is what makes the listing credible. Extended proof is a product: a set of images from across the wear, a short video, a voice note describing the day. Price those as add ons. Buyers who want them will pay, and buyers who do not will still trust the free one.

The line you do not cross

Do not fake it. Do not spray water on gym wear and call it sweat. Do not wear an item for an hour and sell it as a two day wear. Do not reuse an old proof photograph for a new item. Buyers in this market talk to each other, they notice repeats, and one caught fake ends your reputation permanently. The honest version pays better anyway, because honest sellers get returning buyers and returning buyers are the whole business.

Keep a proof archive

Save every proof shot with the order reference. If a buyer questions an item three weeks later, you can show them the shot from the day. This costs you nothing and settles disputes before they start.
