Reading a Seller's Terms Before You Buy

Every creator shop carries a terms page, usually linked in the footer, and most buyers have never opened one. It is the cheapest two minutes in the whole process.

Postage and timing

What it costs, when it goes, and whether it is tracked. If you need something by a date, this is where you find out whether that is realistic, and it is much better found now than in a message four days later.

How your details are handled

A good terms page says what is collected, what it is used for and how long it is kept. It also usually says how the parcel is packaged, which is the thing most people actually want to know and almost nobody wants to ask.

Customs and returns

If you are buying from another country, duties are yours and they arrive after the parcel does. Worn and personal items are also generally not returnable for hygiene reasons, which is normal and worth knowing before rather than after.

Customs on the way in

An overseas parcel can sit with the carrier waiting for a payment you were not expecting. That is not the seller holding it back, and messaging her will not release it faster than paying the charge will.

What it tells you about her

A terms page that is specific, written in her own voice and clearly kept up to date says something about how the rest of it will go. That is worth as much as anything it actually says.
