The Listing That Is Live and Still Invisible

KinkCoach · · 3 min read

A listing can be finished, priced, in stock and completely unreachable. It does not look broken from where you are sitting, because from there you go straight to it. The people you need are coming the long way round.

Live and findable are two different things

Publishing puts an item in your shop. It does not put it on the paths people actually walk. Most buyers never scroll a whole shop, they narrow down first, and anything sitting outside the way they narrow is invisible no matter how good it is.

The category field is the whole route

An item with no category set still exists, and a direct link to it still works, but nobody browsing by category will ever arrive at it. It is one of the most common reasons a finished listing quietly gets no views, and it takes about ten seconds to put right.

Write the title a buyer would type

Your own shorthand is not what anybody searches for. If the words a buyer would actually use are missing from the title, the listing is relying on somebody stumbling into it. Plain and specific beats clever every single time.

Check it the way a stranger would

Open your shop in a private window and try to reach the item without using your own link. If you cannot get to it in two or three taps, neither can they. That test finds more in a minute than staring at the listing page ever does.

Do it after every upload, not once a month

The gap almost always turns up on the newest item, because that is the one added in a hurry at the end. Making the stranger check part of uploading costs nothing and stops the same thing happening again without you noticing.
