Understanding Delivery Estimates
Almost every listing gives some idea of when your parcel will arrive. It is a helpful guide, but it is easy to misread. Knowing what goes into an estimate makes waiting far less stressful, and helps you plan if you need something by a particular date.
Processing time comes first
Before anything is posted, the seller has to prepare your order. Many items are made or packed by hand, so there is often a few days of processing. The delivery clock really starts when the parcel is handed to the carrier, not when you press buy.
Postage is a separate step
Once it is on its way, the carrier takes its own time. Standard services usually take longer than tracked or express ones. If speed matters, choose the faster option when it is offered and check what it actually includes.
Weekends and holidays count
Most carriers do not move parcels on Sundays, and public holidays slow things down further. An order placed on a Friday afternoon may not leave until Monday. Allow a little extra around busy periods and long weekends.
Ask if you have a deadline
If you need your order for a certain day, tell the seller before you pay. They can tell you honestly whether it is realistic and may suggest the best way to send it. Most are glad to be asked early rather than chased later.
Use tracking and stay calm
When a tracking link is provided, check it rather than worrying. Updates can lag behind reality. If the estimate has clearly passed and nothing has moved, send the seller a polite message and give them a chance to look into it.
