Waiting Lists: What to Do When a Seller Is Fully Booked

You find the seller you want, and their turnaround already says four weeks, or their listings say sold out, or a message back says gently that they are not taking anything new for now. Your first instinct is normally right: ask, briefly, whether they keep any kind of list for when that changes.

Not every seller runs one, and that is fine. Plenty of shops here are one person fitting this around a full life, and a waiting list is one more thing to manage on top of the orders they already have. If they say no, believe them the first time rather than asking again a week later hoping the answer has quietly changed.

If they do keep a list, treat your place on it properly. Answer promptly when they message to say a slot has opened, because the next name on the list will not wait for you to notice. Keep your details current, especially anything about sizing or preferences you gave when you first asked, since a slot opening months later is not the moment they want to be chasing you for information you already gave once.

While you wait, it is worth being honest with yourself about why this particular seller matters enough to wait for. Sometimes it genuinely is the only person doing exactly what you want, and a few weeks is nothing against that. Other times the waiting has become the appeal, which is a different thing entirely and worth noticing before you build a habit of choosing hard to reach sellers over ones who are simply available and good.

And do not let a wait stop you buying elsewhere in the meantime. A full order book is not a closed one, and a seller worth waiting for is rarely put off by a buyer who was also willing to buy from someone else while the list moved.
