When to Walk Away From a Conversation

Almost every purchase that goes badly gave a signal beforehand. The signals are not subtle, they are just easy to talk yourself out of when you have already decided you want the thing.

Pressure to hurry

Someone else is interested, it needs deciding today, pay now to hold it. Genuine sellers do lose items to other buyers, and they say so without turning it into a countdown. Urgency applied to you is a technique, not a circumstance.

Wanting to move the payment elsewhere

A seller who wants the money handled somewhere with no record is asking you to carry all of the risk. However friendly the reason sounds, the effect is the same and it is the single most common feature of orders that never arrive.

Vagueness that does not clear up

Asking a direct question twice and getting a non answer twice is your answer. It might be disorganisation rather than dishonesty, but the parcel is equally missing either way.

The price is far below everything else

You already know this one. Compare a few listings and anything dramatically under the range is either not what it claims or not coming.

They ignore a boundary

You said no to an add on and it is raised again. You asked to keep things on platform and they asked twice. Someone who does not respect a small no before payment will not discover the habit afterwards.

Leaving is free

This is the part people forget. Before money moves you owe nobody anything and there is no awkwardness worth paying for. Stop replying, look at another listing, and the whole thing costs you ten minutes.

Trust the early signal. It is almost always right, and it is never cheaper to act on than it is right now.
