Why Sellers Ask for Details You Think Are Odd

KinkCoach · · 4 min read

A seller asks something unexpected and buyers often assume it is prying. Nearly always it is logistics, and knowing the reason makes the whole exchange easier.

Asking what it is for

This sounds personal and is usually practical. What you want the item for changes which item they pick, how long they wear it and how they pack it. A vague answer gets a generic result, which is exactly what disappoints people later.

Asking about your address before you pay

International postage costs several times domestic, and some things cannot be sent to some countries at all. They are pricing the order, not placing you. Country is enough at that stage and no reasonable seller needs more before payment.

Asking you to confirm something you already said

Sellers who have been burnt once confirm details in writing. It is not doubt about you, it is a habit built from an order that went wrong when something was assumed. It protects you as much as them.

Asking whether you have bought before

First time buyers get more explanation, and sellers who are good at this adjust. It is not a test and there is no wrong answer. Saying it is your first time usually gets you more help rather than less.

What you never have to answer

Your real name beyond what postage requires, your job, your social accounts, anything about your household. None of that is needed to complete an order. A seller who insists is not asking for practical reasons and you can simply stop there.

Answer what makes the order work and skip the rest. The good sellers only ever ask the first kind.
