Writing a Brief for a Custom Video
A custom video is made for you alone, and the single biggest thing that decides how good it is, is the brief you send. A vague request gets a generic clip. A clear one gets something that feels made for you, because it was.
Start with the length
Say how long you want the video to run. It sets the price and it shapes everything else, because a two minute clip and a fifteen minute one are very different things to plan.
Describe what happens
Write the key moments in order, in plain words. What they wear, what they do, what they say. You do not need a script, but a few sentences in sequence help enormously.
Name the details that matter to you
If an outfit, a phrase, a camera angle or a setting is essential, say so clearly. If something is optional, say that too, so the creator knows where they have freedom.
Check their limits first
Every creator lists what they will and will not make. Read it before you write the brief, so you ask for something they can say yes to.
Agree the price and timing
The creator will quote and tell you roughly how long it will take. Agree both before you pay, and be patient: a good custom takes time.
Photos work the same way
The same brief works for a custom photo set: the outfit, the poses, the number of photos. A custom set usually costs less than a custom video.
Say thank you
When a custom arrives and it is what you wanted, tell the creator. It costs nothing, and it is the reason many creators move a returning buyer to the front of the queue next time.
